St. John's, Antigua, March 07, 2000The Directorate of Offshore Gaming wishes to advise that the Cabinet of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday, February 16, 2000, abolished the 10% import duty on goods required in the operation of Internet Gaming entities licensed in the jurisdiction. This abolition has been applauded by the Offshore Gaming Community on the Island. The 20% Government Tax on International Calls for Internet Gaming Companies was abolished in 1999. This measure substantially reduced the operating costs of Offshore Gaming licensees.
Cable and Wireless has also announced rate reductions for bulk users due in Mid-March.
The Directorate of Offshore Gaming continues to seek ways and means of advancing the industry in Antigua and Barbuda. These reductions are only one element of the industry enhancement plan for the Offshore Gaming Industry in our Country. We look forward to more exciting news in the weeks and months to come, which will focus on credit card processing facilities on the island among other new or enhanced services.
